The short version. EmojiHexa has no accounts and no login. We do not know who you are, and we do not try to find out. We keep anonymous counts of which emoji are viewed and what people search for, and we show ads through Google, which sets its own cookies. That is the whole picture.
Who runs this site
EmojiHexa is an independently operated emoji reference site. In privacy terms, we are the data controller for the small amount of information described below.
What we collect
Anonymous usage counts
When you view an emoji page, run a search, or play a puzzle, the site records a counter. These counters are deliberately built so that they cannot identify anyone: we store no IP address, no user agent, no cookie and no session identifier. What is stored is the kind of event, what it referred to, and a daily tally — for example, that the page for 👋 was viewed a certain number of times on a given day.
There is no way for us to connect two events to the same person, or to link any event back to a visitor. We cannot tell you what you personally looked at, because we do not have it.
Search terms
Search queries are recorded the same way — as anonymous daily counts of what was searched for, trimmed and lowercased, with no visitor attached. We use this to work out which emoji people cannot find. Please do not type personal information into the search box; it is a search box for emoji, and treating it as anything else is unwise on any website.
Things stored on your own device
Emoji Fill saves your puzzle statistics in your browser’s local storage. That data stays on your device, is never sent to us, and disappears if you clear your browser data. It is the only thing this site stores on your device other than advertising cookies described below.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, passwords, or profiles — there is nothing to sign in to.
- No email addresses. There is no newsletter and no mailing list.
- No IP addresses or device fingerprints in our own analytics.
- No cross-site tracking of our own, and nothing sold to anyone, ever.
Advertising
This site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Google is a separate company acting as its own data controller, and it may set cookies or read device identifiers in order to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads based on your activity across other sites.
We do not receive that information, and we do not pass anything to Google that could identify you. What Google collects, and how it uses it, is governed by its own policies:
Your choices about ads
- You can turn off personalised advertising at Google My Ad Center. Ads will still appear; they will be less relevant.
- You can opt out of participating vendors at optout.aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.
- Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Nothing on this site breaks if you do.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland
Before advertising cookies are set, you will be shown a consent message asking whether you agree. You can consent, refuse, or choose in detail — and refusing is exactly as easy as agreeing. You can change your answer at any time by clearing this site’s cookies and reloading the page.
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR you have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability over personal data about you. We should be straightforward here: because our own analytics hold nothing that identifies anyone, in practice we have no personal data of yours to give you or delete. Requests about advertising data should go to Google, which holds it.
Where data is stored
The site’s content and the anonymous counters live in a hosted Postgres database in the United States. Because the counters contain no personal data, no international transfer of personal data is involved.
Children
This site is for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone — children included — because we do not collect personal data at all.
Changes
If what we collect changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. We will not quietly start collecting more than is described here.
